Beating Back to School Jitters: Books and Articles for Children and Parents

Updated: Mar 11

Dear Friends,

As another summer vacation ends, I am thinking about all the little ones starting school in a few weeks. Those new to MDS, returning to MDS, and moving on to other schools or Kindergarten. These transitions can be challenging, but they don't have to be. There are a few ways to prepare yourself and your child for these new endeavors.

Books are an excellent way to support children's anxiety about new situations. Books support children's cognitive development and deepen their understanding of new situations. Books also provide them with accessible background knowledge. They then use this acquired background knowledge to make sense of what they experience.

I have a few favorites that I would like to share with you. I hope they help prepare you and your little ones for these new experiences.

Back to School Anxiety

“We shall walk together on this path of life, for all things are a part of the universe and are connected with each other to form one whole unity."

- Maria Montessori

Our investment in each child doesn't end at the end of the school day or school year. We will always be here to support your little ones in their education. I hope everyone has a great start to the school year!

Best regards, Latisha
