SARAH WALKER

Executive Director

  • Sarah joins MDS as Executive Director and brings with her over 8 years of leadership and fiscal experience as a Head of School, and over 27 years in teaching and administration. Sarah received her M.Ed in Educational Administration from the University of Cincinnati where she was a Gabbard Fellow, and she completed Montessori Foundations coursework for administrator’s training at the Montessori Institute of Atlanta.

  • A former Head of School for The Montessori School in Wilton, CT., Sarah brings with her a passion for as well as experience in promoting true Montessori pedagogy as the ultimate vehicle for respecting and promoting the growth and development of the child.

  • For this upcoming year, Sarah looks forward to establishing connections for MDS staff and community among fellow Montessori schools in the tri-state area, to bringing Montessori parent education programs forward for MDS, and to assisting the board in leading strategic planning for the next phase of outreach, growth and development for the MDS community.

  • Sarah is also the proud mother of two adult children, Elizabeth and Louis, and a 4-legged one of the canine persuasion, Gillie--her rescue Morkie.

  • In her spare time, Sarah enjoys connecting with family and friends, traveling to new cultures, music of all genre, seeing live theater, and staying current with the movies!

 
 
 

ASHLEY EVANS

Assistant Director

  • Ashley began her teaching career at MDS in 2010. She holds a Montessori Certification from West Side Montessori, a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Concordia College, and NY State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Special Education. Ashley has also earned a BA in Social Work and Anthropology. 

  • Ashley is excited to embark on this new journey as the Assistant Director. She looks forward to serving this wonderful community as a whole with dedication, passion and a commitment to the Montessori philosophy. 

  • Ashley was born and raised in Tennessee. Her teaching career began in New Orleans, where she worked with AmeriCorps educating and counseling youth after hurricane Katrina. Since then Ashley has worked with youth in various environments, including shelters, refugee resettlement agencies, and at the Boys and Girls Club.

  • In her spare time, Ashley enjoys volunteering with New York Cares, practicing yoga, spending time with family, traveling, and cooking new cuisines!

DIANE BROMBERG

Business Manager

  • Diane joined the administrative MDS team in June 2015. Prior to joining MDS, Diane worked as the Office Manager/Financial Administrator of Flat Inc, helping it to grow and ushering it through the ebb and flow of changing design markets. During this time she also served as the volunteer Treasurer of the PTA of PS 154 in Windsor Terrace.

  • Prior to that she worked as an artist, using her art skills and knowledge to get young people involved and collaborating around social and health issues, and co-founded a nonprofit Arts/Health Education organization for young adults (ages 12-17) focusing on HIV prevention, confidence and communication skills.

  • Diane holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.

  • When not at work Diane makes art, bakes gingerbread geodesic domes, renovates buildings and enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, four chickens and cat.

 
 
 

TAMIKA BUTLER

Office Manager

  • Tamika joined MDS in August, 2012. She grew up in Boston, MA and moved to Brooklyn in 2008.

  • Tamika received a BFA in Arts Management with a minor in Film from LIU- CW Post in Brookville, NY.

  • After college, Tamika gained professional experience by working in administrative positions within the visual and performing arts communities.

  • When not at work she enjoys time with her own children. Soap making, redecorating, painting, and baking grab her interest. Tamika likes to read novels, write, and watch movies.
